Positive Expression
is a program that teaches elementary-age, at-risk youth to use dance and the arts as analternate to drugs and violence. Composed of three, twelve-week plans, ecliptic styles of dance and music
are used to teach youth:
positive social interaction and role-models
increased self worth and confidence
the power of individualization and creativity
the courage to just say no and stand up for personal beliefs
the channeling of emotions into artful, positive expression.
a love and appreciation for the art of dance
The program pairs dance instruction with personal development and creative communication activities, group discussion, role playing and more. Our instructors are well trained in the curriculum and ready to act as positive role models to their students.
Currently, Positive Expression is implemented at the Section 8 housing units in Ft. Lauderdale. We will be expanding in our program and reaching other schools in Broward.
Help us reach our goal!!! Please consider making a gift to this program. We have a goal to raise $5,000 by the start of the 2009 school year in order to implement the program in various schools throughout the county where children are most at-risk. For as little as $25, you can provide 10 children with 30 minutes of dance.
